Shorty was a three-sport star at Wyalusing High School, playing football, wrestling and baseball. His high school wrestling record was 26 wins – 1 loss. He was two-time sectional champion and two-time District 4 runner-up and winner and outstanding wrestler of the Williamsport Holiday Tournament. Following high school, he attended Bloomsburg Univer­sity, where he continued to excel in sports. Shorty coached wrestling for a total of 25 years. He coached Lake Lehman High School to a state title with 3 state champions. He also coached Millersville University to 2 NCAA Eastern Regional titles and has racked up the most wins in their history by a wrestling coach at Millersville. He coached First Division 1 All-American at Millersville University. He was named NCAA Eastern Regional Coach of the Year 2 times, had NAIA championship 2nd and 3rd place finishes; he was a member of 2 USA teams to tour Russia and won a Silver Medal in World Competition. Floyd has been a teacher for 21 years, the last 12 in the school district of Lancaster, where he is a second and third grade teacher at Hamilton Elementary. Some of the many honors Shorty has accumulated include: induction into the PA Wrestling Hall of Fame; District 4 Wrestler Hall of Fame; Northern Sectional Hall of Fame; Wyalusing Valley Wrestling Hall of Fame; Bloomsburg University Hall of Fame; Hall of Fame for Outstanding College Athletes of America; also District 2 Coach of the Year. Floyd resides in Conestoga, Pa., with his wife Hope, and three children, Megan, 17, Matthew, 16, and Meredith, 7.
