Ed attended West Side Tech, where he played golf for three years and was the captain and MVP during his junior and senior years. After graduation, he entered the US Air Force. While serving at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, he played golf on the base team which competed in golf tournaments against other military installations across the United States. After being honorably discharged, he returned home to Exeter in August 1978. The next spring, he became golf course superintendent at Lehman Golf Club and that fall, he enrolled at Penn State University Wilkes-Barre (PSU W-B) where he obtained a degree in engineering, all while continuing as superintendent.

Ed was named Head Golf Coach at PSU W-B in 1988. He is one of the most successful coaches and the longest tenured head coach in PSU W-B’s history. Throughout his 38 years of coaching, Ed has been affiliated with numerous athletic conferences. They include the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC), Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC) and Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association (PCAA).

His PSU W-B teams have 51 tournament wins and eight conference titles. Under Ed’s coaching, PSU W-B has won five prestigious President Cup titles, five undefeated regular seasons, including four straight seasons. In 2025, Ed was named Head Golf Coach at PSU Hazleton while continuing his coaching duties at PSU W-B.  Between W-B and Hazleton, 137 golfers have been named All Conference or All State, 195 have been named Academic All Conference, and 16 have been named USCAA All Americans. In addition, Ed also coached bowling at PSU W-B.

Ed was named EPCC Coach of the Year twice, USCAA Coach of the Year, PSUAC Coach of the Year and was inducted into the PSU W-B Wall of Fame. In 2026, Ed was awarded the Robert J. Scannell Roll of Honor for outstanding service to the PSUAC. Ed was co-chair of the PCAA, PSUAC, USCAA golf championships and co-creator of the PSU W-B open golf tournament.

Asked what he considers his greatest accomplishment, Ed would offer enthusiastically, supporting and guiding young men and women through life’s journey. Mentoring student athletes, teaching them about life and watching them go out into the world and become successful are the hallmarks of my coaching career.

After 14 years as Lehman Golf Course superintendent, he spent the next seven years at Newberry Estate Country Club as its Country Club Recreational Manager, Supervisor of Maintenance and Golf Professional.  In 2000, Ed returned to Lehman Golf Club again as golf course superintendent and remained there until his retirement in 2023. Upon retirement, Ed returned to Newberry Estate as its Golf Instructor. Ed also served 18 years as the Athletic Director for District 5 of the Greek Catholic Union, one of the largest fraternal benefit societies in the United States.

From 2002 to the present, Ed conducts youth summer golf camps and ladies’ golf clinics through the PSU W-B Continuing Education Department. He has introduced hundreds of children and ladies to the wonderful game of golf.

Besides coaching and teaching golf, Ed is an avid golfer. He has won over 100 individual and team tournaments, including two club championships at Lehman Golf Club.

Ed resides in Hanover Township with his wife of 24 years, Gina.
